Justifying Faith

Thomas Hardcastle

Thomas Hardcastle was a seventeenth-century pastor of Broadmead Baptist Church, Bristol, during a time of significant persecution. He was imprisoned for his faith on numerous occasions. The majority of this book is made up of  twenty-two pastoral epistles which he wrote to his church while imprisoned, intended to be read to the congregation each Sunday. They provide a wonderful example of true faith in the midst of trial, while also expounding the doctrine of justifying faith. In addition to these letters are three lectures given by Hardcastle on faith as part of an exposition of the Shorter Catechism. A historical introduction by Matthew J Hyde sets out the context of Hardcastle’s life and times.
