John Robert Broome

1931-2013

Minister, author, historian and lecturer. For 27 years teacher of History and Latin, and Careers Advisor in Grammar and Comprehensive schools.  

Mr Broome retired from teaching since 1986.  He lived in Trowbridge and wrote many books, mostly historical and biographical. He regularly used to visit Holland and lecture to the students of the universities. His last large book was "A Bruised Reed, The Life and Times of Anne Steele", the 18th century hymnwriter. He also wrote the first biography of John Warburton, the author of 'The Mercies of a Covenant God,' published in 1996 under the title 'Servant of a Covenant God.'  His last books, finished not long before he passed away, were "Some Eighteenth Century Hymnwriters", "Some Puritan Divines", "Some Welsh Ministers" and "Some Scots Worthies".
