Olney Hymns
John Newton & William Cowper
There are few modern hymnbooks without such hymns as: 'God moves in a mysterious way.' 'Amazing grace, how sweet the sound.' 'O for a closer walk with God'. First published in 1779 they had their origin in the friendship between William Cowper, the gifted poet and John Newton, a former slave ship captain, curate at Olney Church. It is the hope of the publisher that many of the lesser-known gems which have not found their way into other hymnbooks will be made a blessing likewise.
