News and Announcements

Welcome to the Bethesda news and announcements page. Here we will post news and items of interest to our friends and supporters

  • 1 Jun 2020
       Our weekly update once more records the Lord's mercy to Bethesda. All three Homes are continuing to operate - with the Lord's help - albeit with the present COVID - 19 precautions still in place and our residents and staff are gradually returning to 'normal'.
       We are acutely aware of the desire of relatives and friends to visit loved ones in the Homes. Bethesda is exploring what arrangements need to be in place to allow visits, in the Lord’s purposes, to recommence in the Homes. Any easing of restrictions will need to be in line with H.M. Government’s guidelines and ensure that residents, staff, and visitors are not placed at risk of infection. (Jeremiah 32:27)
       Please continue to pray that the trustees and management teams might be given wisdom to do what is right before the Lord to ensure the care, safety, and well-being of the residents.
    From today we will not be issuing a weekly bulletin and placing this on the website. We would ask you to regularly check the 'News and Announcement' section on the website, if the Lord will, for future updates.
       The trustees have much cause to return thanks to Almighty God and although as yet the Homes have not completely returned to 'normal' we have seen answers to our many prayers in preserving Bethesda. May we each be given a true spirit of thanksgiving for the Lord's lovingkindness and compassion to us particularly during those anxious times over the past few weeks.
    'We'll praise Him for all that is past,
    And trust Him for that's to come.'
                                    Gadsby's 220 v 7

    We acknowledge the Lord's mercy in continuing to watch over our three Homes during another week.
    The residents and staff at the Brighton and Studley Homes are still free from COVID - 19 symptoms and the situation at Harpenden is stable.
    We feel that the Lord has, thus far, placed a 'hedge' about our Bethesda Homes and has in mercy preserved both staff and residents from the serious effects of the virus.
    The Trustees continue to value the prayerful interest of our supporters at this time.
    'Plagues and deaths around me fly;
    Till he bids, I cannot die;
    Not a single shaft can hit,
    Till the God of love sees fit.'
                                    Gadsby's 64 v 6

    With the ongoing concerns regarding the current outbreak of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Bethesda is carefully monitoring the situation in view of our residents being elderly and therefore particularly vulnerable and at ‘high risk’.

  • 16 May 2020
      Once again we are thankful to report, through the Lord's mercy, that all three Homes - Brighton, Harpenden and Studley - are continuing to operate as 'normal' and there is a further general improvement of health among staff and residents.
      However, whilst we have proved the Lord's gracious help to Bethesda during the past few weeks, it is still prudent that all relevant precautions continue.
      Following the recent statement made by the Prime Minister, sadly on Lords' Day 10th May, there was no mention of relaxing the prevailing visiting restrictions for Care Homes. The current conditions that are in place, relative to visiting the Homes by family, friends and supporters will therefore continue.
       If the Lord will, we will notify you when any changes are announced to the current regulations.
       Once more the Trustees acknowledge the Lord's goodness in watching over the Homes - residents and staff - during another week.

    'Whate'er be our wants, we need not to fear;
       Our numerous complaints his mercy will hear;
     His fulness shall yield us abundant supplies;
        His power shall shield us when dangers arise.'
                                                    Gadsby's 184 v 2

    We are thankful to report that both the residents and staff in all our Homes - Brighton, Harpenden and Studley - at present continue to be free of the 'signs and symptoms' of the COVID-19 virus.
    The residents are being cared for by the staff in the usual way - taking all appropriate precautions - conscious that the Coronavirus has had a devastating effect in some Care Homes. We sincerely thank our Home Managers and staff for their commitment - particularly in recent weeks.
    Although it may be some time before regular visiting can be resumed to the Homes we continue to value the loyal support and prayers of so many friends.
    The Trustees have particularly felt that their many prayers have been answered by a merciful Lord during the past few weeks.
        'The Lord Jehovah is my guide;
         He does and will for me provide;
         And in the mount it shall be seen,
         How kind and gracious He has been'.
                                           Gadsby's 513 v 4

    We are thankful to report that in all three Homes there is a continued improvement, relative to COVID-19 issues, with both residents and staff.
    Brighton & Studley: Both Homes are still free of the virus. Almost all staff are working as usual.
    Harpenden: Three residents, who had been showing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus, yesterday had their test results which have proved negative.
    The staff, have for the most part, resumed normal duties.
    We are truly thankful to the Lord for His watchful care over each of our Homes at this time. We record His faithfulness in hearing and answering the many prayers of the Trustees, friends, staff, residents and supporters of Bethesda.
    'The Lord hath been mindful of us'. Psalm 115:12

    Brighton & Studley: Once more we are able to report that the situation for both the staff and residents is much the same as last week. This is indeed a mercy as many Care Homes have been seriously affected with the virus.
    Harpenden: The residents who had been tested positive with the COVID-19 virus are for the most part gradually returning to normal although some of the other residents continue to be rather weak and frail.
    Compared with our recent weekly reports we are thankful that there is a much improved situation regarding the staff. Many are resuming back to normal duties again.
    The Lord continues to hear and answer prayer and the Trustees once more acknowledge the Lord's help and appreciate your continued prayerful interest and support.
    'This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him'. Psalm 34:6

    Brighton & Studley: We are thankful to report that there have been no major changes in the health of both the staff and the residents. The staff have been able to continue with caring for the residents in the usual way.
    Harpenden: Although some of the residents are rather frail we are thankful that some, who were tested positive with COVID-19, are continuing to improve. There has been no apparent further worsening of their conditions.
    Some members of staff who had been on sick leave or on ‘self-isolation’ have now returned. Others, who are at present still unable to return due to illness, are continuing to improve.
    The Trustees once again acknowledge the Lord’s gracious help to Bethesda in hearing and answering many prayers. Your continued support and prayers are greatly valued.
    “The Lord hath been mindful of us”. Psalm 115:12

    Sadly, a resident In the Brighton Bethesda Home, Mr Peter Cornwall, passed away on Monday, 13 April 2020 in the evening. Mr Cornwall had been unwell with an underlying condition which gradually worsened. As he was running a temperature, he was cared for separately and all necessary precautions were taken. Mr Cornwall was much loved by those in the Home and there are many who have fond memories of him and the sweetness of his ministry. We believe he is one who is now safely landed on yonder shore (483).
    Our prayers and thoughts are with the family, the friends at Mount Bures and those at Galeed Chapel, Brighton. We would also remember the staff who lovingly cared for him at the Home.
    Matthew 28:20

    Sadly, a resident, in the Harpenden Bethesda Home, Mr David Keeling, passed away on Monday, 13 April 2020. Mr Keeling had been admitted into hospital, on Saturday, 4 April 2020, with a condition unrelated to COVID-19, whilst in hospital he was tested positive for the virus. In the Lord’s mercy, it was possible for him to return to the Home, on Sunday, 12 April 2020, to be cared for, in his last hours upon this earth, by the staff at Bethesda.
    Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time and also, the staff who lovingly cared for him at the Home.
    Matthew 25:13
